Woah, and look at that time wizzing by!! I will indeed be posting something better than this soon, but I just took a peek at my blog and realized that it's been far too long since I posted anything.
So this is just.. something... with a promise of more.

Sims 3 Legacy Challenge
So I love Sims 3, it's great fun. I am doing a Legacy Challenge, something I've never committed to. 10 generations is a long time. I have gotten my first generation through their lives successfully. Paul Paisley is an Evil, Brave, Hydrophobic, Charismatic, and he has a job as Emperor of Evil in the Criminal career track. Lifetime aspiration achieved, win! Paul is still the breadwinner, bringing in more than $3k every day he works. He's a marathon runner, a pretty good angler, very handy having upgraded most of the house's objects, and pretty good in the garden. He married this crazy broad Cherry and they have three sons Maverick, Larry and Chester. They are all Young Adults or soon to be, Chester is about to graduate from high school. Cherry is CRAZY. Like, batshit crazy.
One of her traits is that she is Neurotic. And boy is she. She always has aspirations to like, wash her hands three times or brush her teeth two times. Another of her traits is that she Loves the Outdoors. So, if I let her AI take over she is, no matter what time of day, what she should be doing, this bitch is ALWAYS out playing in the sprinkler, boogeying and shaking her ass at the water. Even more of the crazy. Another trait is that she is Inappropriate. So this crazy old coot wears her nightgown everywhere and takes sponge baths in the kitchen sink. And she likes to imply people's mother's are llamas. Funny as hell. She's just crazy.
Obviously you get pretty attached to your Sims, I love these guys and they've had a good long life. But, I have to say I am ready for them to go bye bye so I can focus on getting Maverick some action and get that 3rd generation popping.

Time slipping by
Baby girl is crawling and cruising. She's 9 1/2 months old and so cute it hurts sometimes. Life has gotten a bit easier since I found a great nanny. Without her, my house would never get cleaned. Kari is awesome with Mia and it's good for me to have someone around.
Mia got her 6th tooth last week and now she seems to be teething again based on her sleeping pattern tonight so far. When she teethes, she is up every hour wanting to nurse. When her mouth is free of pain she sleeps much better.
My sister just came for a few days and it was a good visit but much too short. But it was the only time she could get off work.
Time slips by so quickly, hard to think about Mia turning ONE in a few months. Yikes.

She's WILD
When Mia does finally figure out all the mechanics of how to crawl, it will inevitably be to go after some object that could possibly maim or kill her. Yes I am baby proofing as I can, but yesterday she managed to pull two clothes hangers from God knows where. Oh yay mom look what I have, I can poke my eye out now!
Yesterday she really figured out the Johnny Jump Up jumpie thing. She loves to be held and bounce up and down so a while ago I got her that thing, and at first she didn't get it. She would sit in it but not bounce. She would spin, which the instructions explicitly tell you not to let your baby do. Of course. But now she's got it. She loves to bouncy bouncy.
I have an adrenaline junkie daughter. She loves to be spun around, flipped over, bounce until she must be dizzy, and especially hang upside down. She's wild!
No real point to this blog post, just free writing some thoughts. If I have a point, it's that I am in trouble once she starts crawling! OMG am I in trouble.

Sleeping update and other talk
Oopsie, once again it's been a while since I posted. We've been to Georgia for two weeks and are now back in Jersey, and once again my husband is out in California on a business trip. They are getting old, to be honest.
So on our trip to Georgia, miracles of all miracles, Mia started sleeping better. Napping better too. First day there she took two naps longer than an hour and a half each. I about had a heart attack. This trend continued the entire two weeks we were there. And since we've been home she has been napping pretty well here too! It's great. Still not able to get a lot done during her naps because I don't want to wake her up but it's great that she is getting the rest she needs during the day. It's made for a much happier Mia and in turn a much happier mama.
Mia still wakes up a lot at night, but some nights are better than others. I think you just have to roll with the flow. Some nights she is up every hour wanting to nurse. A few nights ago she wanted to nurse ALL NIGHT LONG. She nursed from like 12:00 til 6:00 non-stop, any time I would pull away she would wake up and cry. At least we co-sleep, right?! But last night she slept really well, we were only up a few times and she even went back to sleep until 9:45 this morning when I fed her at 7 when we normally wake up.
Night time parenting is the one thing that takes most getting used to, I think. As a new mother, I knew it was going to be challenging and I knew it was going to be draining, but I think I underestimated the amount of care an infant requires 24 hours a day. Not just 12 hours a day. Co-sleeping has been the best thing for us. Some parents find other ways to make getting up all hours of the night work, this works for us. But it's beginning to be a concern to me. Why?
Mia can now roll over from back to front and she can get herself into a sitting position from there. She is very very close to crawling. Many times when she wakes up, first thing she does is roll over and sit up. Once she figures out all the mechanics of crawling, I can just see her crawling over to the edge of the bed and off. Yikes. We've already pushed the bed to the corner of the room and pushed the pack and play up to the foot of the bed. I am planning on getting a bed rail for the open edge of the bed and I hope that works. I know that getting her to sleep anywhere besides our bed would be a traumatic experience that would require an complete change to the way she falls asleep and how we deal with night time waking. It would be icky. She screams if you even put her in her crib to play for a few minutes. She screams if you hold her to nurse her at this point, she will ONLY nurse side laying right now, for whatever reason. I don;t think transitioning her to a crib at this point is what any of us want. but I hope the co-sleeping doesn't become dangerous for her once she starts crawling.
So that's that. Mia is AWESOME right now, sleeping aside. She screams (happy screams) all the time, says "bah blah bah mama mama", knows the sign for "milk" (though she thinks it means pick me up), and has three teeth. She had an amazing time in Georgia with her cousins, aunt and uncle and grand parents. It was awesome. I can't believe she is almost 8 months old. Time flies when you're sleep deprived!!
In other news I desperately want to go see Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince because I love Severus Snape so much. Once Farhan gets back from California I may just have him stay with the baby and go see it all on my own. He doesn't like Harry Potter as much as I do. Few people understand the level of obsession I have for Severus Snape... I have it bad. Severus' movie is calling me.

The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of her Own Making.
Today my new favorite author Catherynne M. Valente started posting her new YA novel, The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in an Ship of her Own Making to her site. A chapter a week will be posted and if you like it, donate. She and her partner have hit some financial straits, and your donation could really help them out. And it's really good. Really, jaw-droppingly good. Go read the first chapter, and I bet you'll donate. It's spectacular. There is a LJ community already for it, onaleopard. Join that too if you're on LJ.

Motherhood Musings
Being a mother grounds me to the animal kingdom. Of course breastfeeding reminds me that humans are mammal, but more so I often feel like a big mama ape while snuggling and playing with Mia. Also the way she instinctively searches for the breast when almost fully asleep. It's easy to feel superior and separate from animals, but this small person very well reminds me of our status in this world.
